Truly Unique Swimming Pool Designs for the Modern Hudson Valley Backyard

What if you could transform your backyard into a dreamy, poolside paradise? With the right pool designs and the best pool builder in Orange County NY, you can do just that! When building a pool with Orange County Pools and Spas, you can have the stunning, fun, and one-of-a-kind custom pool that you desire. To get started, here are five truly unique swimming pool designs for the modern Hudson Valley backyard.

1. The Spool

Some people call them spools (small pools), others call them pocket pools. But at Orange County Pools and Spas, we call them perfection! This petite but useful swimming pool design is ideal for those with backyard restrictions or a smaller user load. Many spools also have built-in spa features such as jets or perimeter seating. They can also be more cost-effective to build, maintain, and heat.

2. A Pool with Built-In Amenities

Why enjoy your pool from the sideline, when you can be in the pool! Built-in pool amenities are not only a show stopper, they are abundantly useful. Chat with a friend on the built-in pool bench or enjoy a drink from a swim-up bar and kitchen. You can even add a built-in table for dinner at the pool with your legs still in the water.

3. The Urban Jungle

You can transform your Hudson Valley backyard into a tropical paradise with the right pool designs. The urban jungle vibe will turn your pool area into a destination that you may never want to leave. (Start planning the staycation now!)

To get this look, start with a beautiful asymmetrical pool design with plenty of curvy edges. Then add vacation-style pool features, such as a cascading waterfall or swim-in grotto. The final, but very important final touch is adding the right landscaping for an island feel. Winter hardy tropical plants that can survive in New York’s Plant Hardiness Zone (Zone 6 for our area) include Elephant Ears, Needle Palms, Passion Flower, and Hardy Hibiscus.

4. A Play Pool

A play pool, also called a sports pool, is a pool design that eliminates a “deep end.” Instead, the deepest part of the pool is between four and five feet, while traditionally pools have a deep end of eight to ten feet. Additionally, the deepest part will often be in the middle of the pool, as opposed to one of the ends.

This pool design is all about usability. With a play pool, families can maximize their pool for fun with games like volleyball, basketball, Marco Polo, and more! It is also better for socializing and is considered a safer pool option.

Keep in mind, though, if you want to have a diving board with your pool, a play pool is not recommended.

5. Dueling Tanning Ledges

A pool with a tanning ledge is perfect for relaxing in the water without being fully immersed. Add stylish chairs, a good book, and a cold drink, and you could stay all day! So hear us out: if one is good, two is a little slice of heaven! The symmetry of dueling tanning ledges is pleasing to the eye and great for hosting.
