5 Tips for Using Your Sauna in the Summer

Does the current outside temperature have you down and depressed? Let us share some good news: sauna use is not limited to cooler weather. Yes, a Jacuzzi® Sauna can be used all year long! In fact, using a sauna in the summer can even help your body acclimate to the heat and function better.

Here in Texas, the summer months can already feel extremely warm. Dallas boasts an average summer temperature of 96 degrees F with a heat index of well over 100. So, when the temperature and humidity soar, it’s important to follow proper sauna protocols to keep yourself safe and receive the most benefits. Check out these five tips for using your sauna in the summer.

Bottoms Up on the H2O

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! You are already more likely to become dehydrated in the summer months due to increased activity, higher humidity, and extreme temperatures.  So when using your sauna in the summertime, it is very important to listen to your body and drink lots of water. It’s a good and simple habit to drink a large glass of water before, during, and immediately after your sauna session.

Stay Cool, Homies

No, we don’t mean wearing new sunglasses and listening to pop radio. But, when using a sauna in summer, it is important to keep your core temperature cool. Remember, your Jacuzzi Sauna will heat up to 125 degrees F during your sauna session. When the outside heat index is also over 100 degrees, you should help your body cool down more quickly. One of the best ways to do this is to take a quick, cooling shower after a session in the sauna. If you have a pool, you can also take a quick dip in it as well.

Make the Most of Your Mornings

Another great habit is to use your sauna first thing in the morning before the outside temperatures have risen. The morning temperatures can be as much as 30+ degrees cooler than the mid-afternoon. Make the most of these “cool” temperatures by using your sauna soon after waking up. Sauna use is also a great way to get your body ready for the day.

Fight Summer Allergies with Sauna Use

Allergies come with some very pesky symptoms. If summer allergies are your nemesis, sauna use can help you fight them! Regular sauna use increases circulation throughout the body, bringing with it additional oxygen and nutrients. It also can help flush out toxins. As a result, it can help reduce nasal congestion, alleviate sinus pressures, reduce puffy eyes, and more!

Avoid Alcohol Before Sauna Use

This tip is true any time of year, but especially so in the summer. Alcohol consumption can greatly increase your risk for dehydration. Additionally, alcohol use can inhibit your ability to recognize your body’s cues regarding temperatures, hydration, exhaustion, and so forth. Therefore, it is recommended to save any alcohol use until after you’ve used your sauna and properly hydrated.
