What to do if Your Home Court is Icy

Ice skating in an ice rink: lots of fun for everyone.

Slipping and sliding on ice while trying to play a game of hoops: entertaining for observers only!

Having snow and ice on your home court not only makes playing sports a challenge, it can also make it dangerous. At Orange County Pools and Spas, we want you and your family to safely enjoy sports on your home court all year long. Here are a few tips on what to do if your home court is icy this winter.

Easy, Peasy Winter Care

At Orange County Pools and Spas, our backyard courts are high quality and extremely durable. This means owning and caring for a home court in winter is even simpler than you might expect. They do not require any pre-winter treatment or winterization. In fact, our home courts are outdoor rated for all seasons, even an Orange County, New York winter! You can simply keep on playing and enjoying your sports court all year long!

Home court care is especially easy during winter weather thanks to the unique Mateflex® sports tile with expansive joints. When ice and snow expand on the ground, our home court floor is designed to offer lateral give. This eliminates any damage or warping that could occur due to winter weather. Additionally, water and ice can easily flow through the home court floor, allowing snow and ice to melt more quickly. This helps the floor drain and dry faster than other flooring options including asphalt.

New York Made, New York Built, and Ready for New Work Winter

Our home courts are made using the industry’s best sports tiles by Mateflex. These tiles are made right here in New York and then installed by our talented and experienced team at Orange County Pools and Spas. No one can create, design, and build a winter ready home court like New Yorkers can! You can trust that our backyard courts are made to not only survive but thrive through the Hudson Valley’s winter weather.

Tips and Tricks for Ridding Your Home Court of Ice and Snow

Because of the exceptional drainage and design of the Mateflex tiles, it is more difficult for ice and snow to build up on our home courts. However, if it does build up, you can use de-icing salts to speed up the melting process. You can also use a shovel to scrape ice and snow away. However, we recommend that you exclusively use a plastic shovel to prevent scrapes or dings to the floor. Also, be especially meticulous and careful around any painted lines to prevent scraping off or damaging the paint.
