After a long year of being locked up, a lot of us are ready to get back into the world and go on a real vacation this year. But, a lot of us aren’t doing that quite yet. Staying at home is great. You get to spend more time with your family; you don’t have to go into the office and, best of all, you get to wear PJs during Zoom meetings. So, if you’re not ready to go back out into the world, what are you going to do this summer? We have an idea. Here’s how to create the perfect summer staycation.
Bring the Fun to Your Backyard.
The first step in creating the perfect summer staycation is planning how to bring the fun to your backyard. Whether you were planning to go to a resort or an amusement park, you can replicate that fun at your home. It just takes a little bit of creativity! A sandbox can become a beach; a slide can become a roller coaster. Or, you can get more creative with other staycation amenities.
Create Some Carnival Games.
One thing kids always want to do on vacation but parents never want to pay for are those carnival games where you can win prizes. We all know that if you’re at an amusement park or pier, the odds of your kids actually winning a good prize are slim to none. But, the games are all yours when you’re at home! Get some great prizes for your kids, and turn your backyard sports park into a carnival. Winning the 3-point game is a lot easier (and a lot more fun) when you’re in control and your kids are only playing against each other.
Hotel Pool, Shmotel Pool.
We all know how vacations work. You buy tickets to an amusement park or some other big-price attraction for your family, and all your kids want to do is spend time in the hotel pool. When you have a pool in your backyard, you can just stay at home and save all of that money! That’s the beauty of a staycation. Or, if you don’t have a pool yet, you can use that vacation money to create something that will last a lot longer. Plus, without the interruption of other hotel guests, you have the whole pool to yourselves. You can play some great summer pool games without having to worry about anyone else.
Spend a Day at the Spa.
Alright, mom, we know you like your vacation time, too, without the kids. Let dad take the kids outside for some fun and have your own spa day at home! Start off with a massage in your massage chair or a soak in the hot tub. If you really need some relaxation, have your kids bring you brunch in the hot tub and maybe even take a nap in the lounge chair!
Take some time to do things you enjoy without the kids, like painting your nails or doing your hair and makeup. Watch a TV show or movie you haven’t seen in a while. And at the end of the day, wrap it all up with a luxury sauna session to relax and detox your body. After dinner, you’ll be ready for a nice, sound sleep in your own comfy bed.
Whip Up a Water Park.
Sure, you can bring the carnival, pool, and spa to your home, but a water park? You probably didn’t think it would be possible, but it is! Water parks are one of the best parts of a vacation, and you really can bring it home.
Looking to replicate the kiddie play area? Get out the sprinkler! There’s nothing quite as nostalgic as running through a sprinkler as a child, and it’s pretty close to what you would find at a water park. You can even get a bucket full of water to dump over your kids, just like the bucket at the kiddie water area.
Make your backyard really feel like a water park with a slip ‘n slide or inflatable water slide. Maybe even get some ice cream and popsicles if it’s a hot summer’s day. And don’t forget to turn your swim spa into a lazy river or wave pool. The size of the swim spa and the pulse of the jets make it the perfect substitution.
Finish Your Vacation With a Barbeque.
If you typically go on a vacation with extended family, you’re probably used to a big family barbeque. But, you can bring that home, too! Grill up some food, break out the lawn games, and take advantage of the vacation destination you’ve created in your backyard. Invite the neighbors or some friends if you would like, or just finish the staycation off as a family. Either way, you’re sure to have a lot of fun and memories to share.
