Fall is Almost Here! Is Your Hot Tub Ready?

‘Twas the middle of summer and all through New York, every creature was sweaty and overly warm. If visions of sweater weather, toasty fires, and colorful leaves are dancing in your head, you won’t have to wait much longer! Autumn, with its cooler weather and beautiful scenes, is just around the corner. And that means hot tub season is ramping up! These last few weeks of summer are the perfect time to get your home ready for fall, including your spa. Here are a few of the steps you can take to prepare your hot tub for fall.

Give Your Hot Tub a Seasonal Cleaning

You’re familiar with spring cleaning, but this time of year calls for a fall overhaul! First (and before draining the water), it is best to add a pump line cleaner to flush the interior workings of any buildup of biofilm. After adding the pump line cleaner, turn on the jets and let it circulate for up to 24 hours.

Next, drain the water in your spa. It is ideal to drain and refill your hot tub three to four times a year. This makes season changes the perfect cue to do so. Once it is completely drained, it’s time to give your hot tub’s interior a thorough cleaning. Use a non-abrasive towel or brush and a spa cleaner to remove dirt, oils, grime, or other buildup and debris. Make sure to thoroughly rinse with water afterward.

Clean or Replace Filters

Next up, it is time to clean your hot tub filters. First, remove the filters. Then, you can submerge the filters in a mixture of water and spa filter cleaner, or thoroughly wash by hand. If your filters are still gunky and hard to clean, it may be time to replace the cartridge.

Prepare the Water

Now that your hot tub interior and filters are clean and ready, it’s time to refill the water. Once filled, add the necessary chemicals and balance the water. Before using your spa for the first time, be sure to test the water again and balance if necessary. Stop by one of our stores in Mohegan Lake or New Windsor to stock up on all the hot tub chemicals you need.

Invest in a Covana Cover

Finally, consider investing in a Covana® Cover for your spa. A Covana Cover will protect your hot tub from fall and winter debris, such as falling leaves, acorns, rain, snow, and more. It also promotes spa safety by preventing children or pets from entering your spa. When opened, a Covana Cover becomes a hot tub gazebo, protecting users from the sun or other elements, and making a more comfortable setting. Additionally, it helps insulate your spa, trapping heat in and preventing water loss. This can lead to significant energy savings.
